A Message of Thanks

We took a little trip to Calgary yesterday to meet a friend. She was such a great help that I wanted to say thanks with flowers. I wanted to get her some orange flowers since that was the colours for her wedding but I ended up with yellow and blue. I hope she likes them.

We also ended up in Banff too. I'm always awestruck with the beauty of the mountains. I was initially a bit disappointed cause the rain clouds didn't seem to be moving and they were covering the view. We drove there anyways and the clouds just thinned for a bit and the sun came out. I'll take it!

Trial Bouquet for May Long Weekend Wedding

This was a trial bouquet for a friend who will be having her wedding this coming May long weekend. Her colours are hot pink, purple, white and blue. Very fitting for a spring wedding. She had hoped to have all tulips but they can be hard to come by in May. I know it is a spring flower but they are best in early part of the year. So I thought the best that would fit the smooth and uniform look would be freesias. We added calla posies, mini lisianthus and delphiniums in her bouquet to make it different from her maids. It's had to tell but the calla posies have purple centres. They are called "Picassa" and it has to be one of the most unique colours on flowers I have seen. I had asked for white posies but they turned out more cream then white. Fortunately, it worked out great cause her dress is off white, almost cream so it will work out perfectly. Her dress is more vintage 50's look so the cream callas will fit the vintage look.

Her maids will only have white and purple freesias against raspberry dresses. Can you just imagine the colours. It will be so colourful and beautiful.

I Heart Sundays!

Have I told you that I love Sundays?! Well, I really love sundays. Woke up early (that I still don't like very much) and met up with my parents for dim sum. MMM! I have been craving for it for awhile. That greasy meaty "h'orderves" always hits the spot and I was pretty much ready for my nap. But the best part was a little present from my parents. They got me a little moth orchid plant. My mom has a real green thumb when it comes to orchids and was probably shameful of me when she watched my plant wither away. It was a sad sight. Well, wish me luck as I try again.

Thanks mom and dad!

Good Luck on Your New Endeavours

There will be a soup and sandwich day to send a co-worker on her new endeavours. How can there be a party without some flowers. 8) I hope you enjoy them as we all wish you well in your new position.

First Arrangement of 2011

Can you believe it? It is 2011 and another year. Every year it seems the days go by so fast. I am not the one to make new year resolutions cause I know I never meet them or rather keep them. I usually forget about it by the next month. I just know that the last year has been a creative one and I hope this year will be just as creative or more! Let it be flowers or quilts or food. I am lucky to have found an outlet to be creative in a very structured world .

Here is the first arrangement of 2011. For a dear friend who has recently suffered a loss. But I know she is someone full of spirit and will make it through.

Despite old man winter constantly on our backs, the floral department gives us a glimmer of hope that warm weather is not far away. Spring flowers are here and growing in numbers. Stock was in store and so were tulips. This arrangement will change in a few days as the tulips will continue to grow in water and create different depth to the arrangement. Enjoy.

A Little Christmas Cheer

This was a special order for a cocktail party coming up. This first arrangement is actually for the hostess. She was so kind to host the party at her home and I thought she could have a little arrangement cause the other arrangements are to be given away. I wanted to add little ornaments but I ended up just adding ribbon and baby's breath. The baby's breath makes it look like snow. I just love the simplicity of it. Sometimes simple is better.

The following are going to be on the food tables and given away at the end of the night.

I was told there were going to be 2 food tables, one big and one smaller. So I thought a set of "twins" and a matching centre will be nice. They can be placed together or separated and still look nice.

Right twin

Left twin

Centre piece. When I delivered it earlier, it ended up on a stand in the living room. It was a better choice as it was in front of these huge windows and it really show case it's magnificence. It's hard to see in the pictures but I sprayed all the arrangements with this gold glitter. It definitely adds that little glitter and glamor to them.
