One Down, One More To Go

Finished and ready for the trip down south. I hope she likes it.

It's all in the details. I wanted to try the various stitches on my machine and used the flower motif. Plus I used multi colored thread too.

The hostess requested books for gifts since the parents didn't registered on a gift registry. First books that popped into my head was Dr. Suess. Since that is so popular, I figured she got them already. Then I was thinking about books from Robert Munsch but then I was too late to get them online. I wanted to get her Angela's Airplane and The Dark. I have to admit, after reading The Dark, I was afraid of my own shadow. I tried to make sure my shadow was always in a corner but that is easier said then done. So Tikki Tikki Tembo was the next choice. To this day I still remember how to say his name without reading from the book. And I don't go near open wells too.

Baby Quilt #2 Takes Precedence

I was getting closer and closer to finishing quilt #1 but change in plans. I just found out baby # 2 just rescheduled the baby shower to this coming weekend so I have just under a week to get it done. The quilt is the same design but just different color.

Let me tell you how much trouble it was to get the fabric for the borders and the back. When you first look at the colors, you see lots of pinks, greens, light yellow and baby blue. But when you put the fabric to other similar color, you find out the colors are those really hard to match palette. The pink now is more of a salmon color, green is now olive-like, blue is somewhere between electric blue and teal and the yellow will look dull if it is matched with the wrong yellow. So after an hour at one store and an hour at another, here is the final decision. The pic shows more pink hues but it is this soft celery color with a hint of hot pink. I know, I would have my head cocked if I hear all this color but look at the results. The "stacking coins" strips are the centre stage and that is what I was hoping for all along.

Clock is ticking, I better get working.

And Baby Quilt #1 Keeps On Going

Can you tell I like to incorporate flowers into things I make?

Peacock Feather Boutonnieres

This was a request from a bride to be. Peacock feathers for boutonnieres. What a wonderful idea! I tried to be a little more creative with the feathers by adding pheasant feathers or cutting the feathers into shapes. I hope she likes them.

Baby Quilt #1 Continued...

I was busy all week and didn't have much time to get back to work on the two baby quilts. But the weekend is finally here and I finally got the extra fabric to make the borders. What do you think of the colors?

Yellow was the choice for the borders on the front side.

Pink was the choice for the back with the extra strips 2/3's down. I could start quilting the two sides together but I wanted to add something extra special.

And the special something is a dresden plate made into a flower. I haven't made the centre nor the stem for the flower yet so stay toon.

End of a Productive Weekend

*Sniff* I am sad that my long weekend has come to an end. But here is what I did.

Quilt #1: This is going to be the first baby girl quilt. I have to make a stop at the fabric store to make the borders between the strips. Stay tune for the finish result in a couple of days.

Quilt #2: This is also going to be the same pattern as the first quilt but with different fabric. I wasn't going to start this quilt until I finished the first but the fabric was screaming for me to sew them together. I swear I heard screaming.

Result of any quilting. Kind of wished I asked Santa for a Roomba this Christmas. And to think this is just the beginning.

I was Bored This Weekend

I was lucky to have a very long weekend this week so this gave me lots of time to do something productive. And no...house work is not productive.

I remember that a friend just had a baby last month and I hope to visit her this month. I thought I would make her little one a baby blanket too. Since I learned how to make a quilt, I find any opportunity to sew. But somehow I was distracted and made a tote before I started on the quilt.
I can't wait to use it later this week when I go to work.

For you serious quilter, you can see it didn't completely quilt the pink section. I was lazy but I thought it was also nice to see a break in the diagonal quilt lines.

I had to take a pic of the button cause I deliberately went to the fabric store to get these $0.98 buttons. But they were worth it. Perfectly pink, perfectly girly and it had flowers on it too!

Oh yes....back to the original plan. Baby girl blanket.

New Year's Eve Suprise

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a happy holiday and got all you wanted from Santa.

Every New Year's eve, there is always a celebration in downtown but we decided not to go cause it was quite cold that night. I know, I know, we are not very brave and we probably should be use to this weather as it happens every year. As we were relaxing in our living room and waiting for midnight to come, we hear this loud pop outside. We knew it was the sound of fire cracker right away. But the first thing I thought of was not the possibility of watching fireworks from my home but of giving the idiot a piece of my mind for lighting firecrackers so close to my house. (I know, slight jump to conclusion). Can you blame me, this is my first house and I am a little paranoid when it comes to the safety of my house. Nevertheless, here are a few pics of the fireworks that night. By the way, the fireworks were set off close to my house, in the park 2 blocks away.

I have to say, the fireworks were very pretty and I think it was even 3 minutes longer then the one put on by the city. I guess I won't attend the party in downtown next year if my community will keep up this little light show.
